Smiling is an essential part of human existence. Without it, the world would be an onerous, dour place, and the face would just be a mish mash of bones, tissue, and eyelashes.

Randy Dotinga of Wired Magazine reported today on Dan Levitin, a former rock producer turned neuroscientist. Levitin made the change from rock to rack in 1990. In the 16 years since his transition he’s amassed an arsenal of valuable
