Last night Friends of the Highline hosted a launch party for their new book ‘Designing the Highline: Gansevoort to 30th Street’. Held underneath the Highline itself it was a stunning, if hot, venue and a great time. Turnout was huge and we are now more excited than ever stroll on top of, instead of underneath, the Highline when it opens later this year. Diller Scofidio + Renfro, who spoke at Semi-Permanent 05, along with Field Operations won the 2004 competition for the design of the Highline. It’s inspiring to see something so large be reused in such an innovative way. Pick up the beautifully designed book at Amazon to check out the final designs for sections 1 and 2 of the Highline.
