Nation Under Siege

 | by your friend

Architecture 2030’s new study, “Nation Under Siege“, predicts the calamity that will befall US’ coastal cities if coal production and consumption is not immediately halted.

According to the study, rising CO2 levels will trigger irreversible glacial melting and dangerous climate change by the year 2035.

Ocean levels will rise by 1m or more around the United States. It might not sound like much, but using a flood-fill algorithm Architecture 2030 depicts graphically what US coastal cities will look like in the case of a 1m sea rise.

The United States has 12,000 miles of coastline. 53% of Americans live in and around coastal towns… In this case, pictures do more than words.

What we do at this phase in our existence on earth is crucial. We have severely damaged the planet, but we are not yet at the point of no return.

Through the 2030 Challenge and the 2010 Imperative Architecture 2030 is urging the global architecture and building community to meet emission and energy consumption standards during development in the hopes of revolutionizing our dependency on fossil fuels. Download “Nation Under Siege” to see what it might cost us if we don’t.
