I grew up playing sports. Loving basketball, and being the right size for the sport, it was always my focus. I was lucky enough to have some considerable succes in
high school with my team winning the state championships and going the entire year undefeated at 32-0. Our team was led by my friend
Matt Harpring, who you can still see in the NBA playoffs this year playing for the
Utah Jazz. While receiving offers to pursue college athletics, I went in another direction, so I’m glad that even though I didn’t play college basketball, that the Spangler athletic legacy is being carried on. If you take a look at this year’s
Penn State Altoona(?) soccer team, you’ll see a new Freshman Midfielder/Forward, from Johnstown, PA. #2 has joined the team from
Bishop McCort high school, and there are surely big things to come for this well named youth.
This division III school has affiliation with Penn State University, although the relationship to the schools is unclear, so if anyone knows the story, let it be known in the comments. Of note, if anyone saw pictures of me in high school, Matt’s hair cut and smile bear an uncanny similarity. Good luck in your Penn State Altoona soccer career Matt. Do us proud.
Well I couldn’t help but notice this one Spangle, and I thought my extrodinary googling talents should be put to use:
Will the real Matt Spangler please stand up?
