Are your Thursday’s SWEEET?

 | by your friend

Well, if they’re not, they could be full of hot, sweaty, jewy comedy love. Every thursday, or favorite New York City comedian and LVHRD MC (you might remember him from such smash hits as the Superhero’s ball and Battle of the Moves, brings the countries finest comedic fighting force to the Slipper Room (SW corner of Orchard and Stanton) stage for his show SWEET!.

Seth “The Zog” Herzog, fills the stage with fresh comedy every week and brings his more famous friends along for the ride. You never know quite what you’ll get, as performances could include stand-up, sketch, or a musical guest. One thing you can be sure of is that each night will feature an unrehearsed and unbelievable conversation with his hot, sexy, 66 year old mother (Yes, his real mom. Trust us on this one). All this for $5 (and for an extra $1.50 he’ll slip you some tongue).

This Thursday marks the 2nd Anniversary of the show! This should be an extra special night, so make sure to get down to the Slipper Room this Thursday, August 3rd, for a special show. If you can’t make it this week, make sure to catch Seth when he hosts Battle of Moves II in late September.

We thought we’d let Seth introduce this weeks guests with the descriptions taken directly from his weekly email . It sounds like quite a crew to ring in his terrible 2’s in style:

JEANANE GARAFOLO: A pioneer in the downtown NY comedy scene and one of the most influential voices of comedy for the last 10 years. You’ve heard her on “Air America” radio, and seen her appearing on last season’s “The West Wing”. Providing a little break from this ‘wet, hot American summer’, she is coming down to speak the ‘truth’ (perhaps even ‘about cats and dogs’).

MATT HIGGINS: One of my absolute favorite concept/character performers is joining us, he’s been heating up the stages all around NY for years, with unpredictable, daring and hilarious performances. I suggest paying yourself a one-way ticket aboard the ‘higgins train’, you’ll have no idea where its going, but you’ll be psyched once you get there.

MICHAEL SHOWALTER: And sitting to my right, once again, this week, making his triumphant return to the show, in which he churns out the jams and drops knowledge by the grams, one of oldest friends and NY’s hottest screenwriting professor, the writer/director of IFC’s “The Baxter” and my former castmate of ‘78 sketch show ‘Sunday Morning Hangover’.

This week, there is a special music guest, for a little extra love, the crowd will be treated to a few songs by former lead singer of “The Wild Colonials”, ANGELA MCCLUSKY, who recently put out her first solo album on Bluenote records to rave reviews. She will be playing with her husband and former Colonial, PAUL CANTELON, who has been busy scoring every film in NY.
