Semi-Permanent05 NYC
| by mattThe time is upon us! After a lot of work, the speakers are locked (minus one last spot), the site is up, and we are ready to tell the world. We are pumped about this years inaugural Semi-Permanent NYC. We have assembled an incredible lineup of the world’s top designers. It is a diverse bunch and there is something for everyone. The weekend of September 9th and 10th will certainly be THE place to be for creative minds around the globe.
We are incredibly proud to bring this event to America for the first time ever. The speakers will take the Avery Fisher Hall stage at Lincoln Center over the course of two days and as an added bonus there will be an opening night party Thursday night with The Royal Magazine and a closing night event (Sponsor TBD).
Visit www.semipermanent.com to see information about the speakers. Tickets will be on sale Monday. Details about the parties will be posted on our press page as they become available, so keep checking back!

cant wait…what a line up of talent.
I’d like to welcome Semipermanent to NYC.
Its a great Lineup ofdesigners and it is going to be a breat show. Design is Kinky is always on top of the game and a lot of us here in NYC are loyal Fans of the site. But as a student, I have to say the price of the tickets is a little unreasonalble. I hope the organizers would take that into consideration. I think you guys do want the middle class to make it the show don’t you???

Hey Ribal,
Thanks for the kind words - we are super excited to be holding the event this year. I guess this blog is as good an area as any to let everyone know that we have done everything in our power to keep the ticket prices low while at the same time putting on the best possible event we can and raising the level of the Semi-Permanent in our home town.
There are a few things that contribute to the cost - including the enormous costs relating to the venue. Lincoln Center is one of the only venues that has the combination of size and quality that this event demands. We want it to reach as wide an audience as possible and hold it in the best environment, but we have been confronted with a ton of costs because NYC is the most expensive city in the world. The venue is a Union venue, which means that we are forced to use this expensive labor. So just to rent the venue, pay the Unions, bring the speakers over, lodge them, get the necessary equipment that it takes to open the doors and turn on projectors costs us more than $150,000.
If you really look at what you get for the money, I think most will agree that the price is at least reasonable. It is two full days of speakers, plus two parties which will provide people with free drinks and entertainment, plus a limited edition book that we produce and pay for ourselves plus tons of other publications and fun stuff. The book alone is $50+ in the store.
As a small organization we have really put ourselves on the line for something that we think is positive and benefits everyone. We want to make this happen, but that also means that the ticket prices need to be where they are in order for us not to be in massive debt.
Since it’s the first year here, many sponsors have been hesitant to come in for a big commitment and would rather see the success of the event this year before getting involved. Those could help bring the ticket costs down.
We priced it considerably lower for students knowing that they are tight with money. In addition, its is priced lower than any conference of this kind - flashforward and HOW are over $800 and it was right about the same as the one other creative conference that could be considered similar and we feel like the experience and what we’re offering is much greater.
There are also group discounts that will be available, so if you could convince others to join you, we would be happy to offer you a discount, you would just need to arrange for the order through our office.
What price would you be willing to pay?
I hope you will take this all into consideration and attend the event this year and spread the word about what we are trying to do.
Thanks from all of us,
Matt
After reading the response to the price, it really does make sense. Most conferences are much pricier than this! can’t wait…the line up sounds great!
