Where: Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, New York City
When: September 9th, 10th 2005
Design Is Kinky created Semi-Permanent in 2003 as a means to unite world-class design leaders with professionals and students. The conference's unique philosophy provides an environment that emphasizes not just the technical aspects of design, but also the creativity and the passion of those involved in the field. To date, with past sponsor support from brands like Diesel, Adobe, MediaTemple, Rockstar, and Whirlwind, Design is Kinky has organized and completed five Semi-Permanent events: three in Sydney (2003, 2004 and 2005), and two in Auckland (2004 and 2005), with a sixth conference scheduled for London in mid-June. The New York date marks the seventh conference overall, and the fourth and final stop on Semi-Permanent's 2005 world tour.
Off-site design exhibitions, networking parties, music showcases and VIP gatherings will run continuously during conference weekend. Staged at different venues throughout the city, these satellite events will add an extra element to the conference, providing the attendees with additional opportunities to relax, network, and social with other like-minded people in their field.
As the creators of Semi-Permanent see it, designers ARE today's tastemakers. They have a hand in everything from magazine advertisements we read to the shape of our toothbrushes. This fall they'll be converging on New York to celebrate the past year's work and generate fresh ideas for the future. Tickets will go on sale soon through the conference website.
