ADC Gala: The Wall, DJs, Gold Cubes & purple ice cubes and origami cranes

Last night we went to the 87th Art Directors Club Awards Gala, an event we creative directed with help from Trollbäck.

The keystone of the design aesthetic was The Wall, a 58 foot swath of white that designer Jon Chonko traversed for two days with a carpenter’s pencil, painstakingly writing THE AWARDS with nothing more than subtle line gradations.

Do you have any idea the kind of concentration and fortitude that takes? Jon’s thighs are like two Third Rails. Touch at your own risk.

We also brought some stellar DJ talent to soundtrack the event: Tim Harrington of Les Savy Fav, Paul Pope, Jeff Staple & Jakob Trollbäck. Mostly they played music we couldn’t understand because it was so profound. But that’s ok. We danced anyway.

It was really a great evening. Thank you to Ami, Olga, Jen, Regan at the ADC for joining forces with thehappycorp and Trollbäck to make the awards memorable for everyone who came through the doors.

Oh. And. We are never going to get rid off all these origami cranes. We used hundreds of them for IDs at the event and they’ve multiplied like tribbles around our office. Guess it comes with the territory.

ALSO: huge applause for Jeff Baxter, Jon Chonko and Alex Sturtevant for finger-to-the-bone dedication to pull off this shindig. If you were at the Art Directors Club last night we hope you had a blast. If not, come next year.
